A brave train employee who stepped in to save passengers during a multiple stabbing attack on a high-speed train has sustained life-threatening wounds, police confirmed on Sunday.

Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied passengers running through compartments.
The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in custody for questioning. Police announced a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.
Emergency Response and Aftermath
The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Five people have now been released from hospital.
A bystander recorded the individual brandishing a big knife and being subdued with a stun device as he faced officers on the station. He was allegedly heard shouting, "End my life, kill me."
âThis terrible incident has affected many people. We are thinking of the victims and their families â particularly the brave member of train personnel whose relatives are being assisted by specialist personnel,â stated a high-ranking law enforcement official.
Union Response and Appeals for Action
Rail unions were quick to commend staff and call for more action. One labor leader stated he would be âseeking immediate meetings with authorities, train companies and police to ensure that we have the strongest available support, tools and robust protocols in operationâ.
Another association representative urged the rail company and government âto move swiftly to review security, to help the affected workers, and to make sure nothing like this occurs againâ.
Driver Commended for Rapid Thinking
The operator who stopped the service at Huntingdon was reported as being âdeeply affectedâ but âgoodâ, and has been commended by association representatives for doing âprecisely what was neededâ.
âHe didnât halt the service in the middle of two stops where itâs obviously difficult for the first responders to reach, but he carried on traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,â stated a union representative.
