Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent prize-giving event nears, one notices an outcry to include fresh award types to acknowledge overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
